Peanut Butter: Spread it On!

It is no wonder that there is a “day” dedicated for “Peanut Butter Lovers.”

In fact, Americans consume more than 800 million pounds of peanut butter a year. And believe me, this is a good thing, as peanut butter is a healthy, nutrient dense food. Peanut butter is rich in protein, with 7 grams packed in just 2 tablespoons. Protein is essential for the body to be able to build and repair muscle tissue, build metabolism boosting muscles and to help your body to feel satisfied/full.

Keep in mind that the amino acids within peanut butter are incomplete, so pairing with a food like a glass of milk would be ideal. Additionally, peanut butter contains what we call “good fats,” which help to keep your heart healthy. It is also a great source of potassium and fiber, both which also play a critical role in heart health. Not to mention the fact that fiber, even with just 2 grams in 2 tablespoons, additionally aids in digestion.

When is the perfect time to add peanut butter to your day? On toast for breakfast, with an apple at snack, mixed into a smoothie after a workout, or a good old PB&J sandwich just about anytime of day! So simply put, peanut butter is a nutrient dense food perfect for any time and any where! Something to celebrate for sure.
